the 3R Regulation Method™️
RECOGNIZE*RESET*REGULATE
~ RESTORE
This Master Class the 3R Regulation Method™️ will teach you how to RECOGNIZE the nervous state, RESET or interrupt the stress response, and REGULATE to stabilize the nervous system to lead to RESTORATION.
Rather than pushing the body to “calm down,” the 3R Method provides a gentle progression that meets the nervous system where it is. Rather than forcing calm, the approach works with the body’s natural stress responses and gradually helps the nervous system return to safety and balance.

Recognize notices the nervous system state: Stressed, overwhelmed, sad, angry, frustrated, etc.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Reset calms the moment: Reset interrupts the stress response in the moment when stress or overwhelm begins to rise.
When the body enters survival mode- fight, flight, or freeze, reset techniques help interrupt that response and bring awareness back to the present moment.
Reset practices are usually short and immediate, helping the body pause and settle enough to move toward REGULATION.
Examples of RESET Practices:
slow breathing
gentle yoga movement
tapping or rhythmic movement (rocking, swaying)
grounding through the senses (aroma, touch, sound)
guided mediation
Reset is about stopping the stress spiral and creating space for the nervous system to settle.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Regulate stabilizes the system: Stabilizes the Nervous System. Once the body has RESET, Regulation practices help the nervous system return to a balanced and stable state.
Regulation builds the body’s ability to move out of survival mode and back into calm, connection, and clarity.
These practices are often slightly longer and focus on rhythm, breath, and body awareness.
Examples of REGULATION Practices:
rhythmic movement
breath practices with longer exhales
bilateral tapping
body scanning
grounding exercises
Regulation strengthens the nervous system’s ability to shift out of stress and return to equilibrium.
RESET AND REGULATION
“Tapping is powerful because it can work immediately to calm the stress response, while also helping the nervous system build new patterns of regulation.”
When interrupting the stress cycle: Small Shifts Matter
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) Tapping works for both Reset and Regulation. Tapping influences the nervous system in two different time scales: immediate calming and longer-term pattern change.
A reset is about interrupting the stress response in the moment.
Tapping combines gentle acupressure stimulation with focused awareness, which sends signals through the nervous system.
Several things happen during tapping that help reset the system:
1. the Stress Loop is interrupted: Tapping introduces rhythmic sensory input, which helps interrupt the escalating stress response..
2. Tapping engages the body: Stress lives in the body, not just the mind. Tapping adds physical input, which helps bring attention out of racing thoughts and back into the body.
3. Tapping signals safety to the brain: Gentle stimulation of acupressure points paired with slow breathing can reduce activation in the brain’s threat detection centers
4. Tapping adds rhythm: The nervous system responds strongly to rhythm. Alternating tapping creates predictable sensory input that can help calm the body quickly.
Tapping helps reset the nervous system because it interrupts the stress response and brings the body back into the present moment.
Tapping Also Supports Regulation
Regulation is about training the nervous system to return to balance more easily over time. Tapping helps with repeated use; strengthening the body’s ability to move out of stress states.
1. Tapping builds nervous system familiarity with calm: Each time the body settles, the nervous system learns a new pattern (stress → tapping → calm).
2.Tapping increases body awareness: Tapping helps one to notice sensations, emotions, and shifts in the body. This awareness can help one recognize stress earlier and respond before overwhelm builds.
Tapping works for Regulation because repeated tapping helps the nervous system learn how to return to balance more easily.
When you know you have a simple method that works, it reduces anxiety about future stress, which itself supports regulation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Restore rebuilds resilience: Restoration focuses on supporting the nervous system over time so the body becomes less reactive to stress and more resilient.
Restore practices help replenish the physical, emotional, and mental resources that burnout and chronic stress deplete.
These practices are often lifestyle habits and deeper forms of self-care that support long-term wellbeing.
Examples of RESTORE Practices:
restorative yoga
deep rest and sleep
time in nature
meaningful connection
reflective journaling
Restoration helps the nervous system rebuild capacity and resilience so it can handle stress more effectively in the future.
The 3R Regulation Method™️ is a trauma-informed approach to nervous system care. It teaches people to RECOGNIZE their stress response, RESET the nervous system in the moment using simple practices like breath and movement, and REGULATE the body so it can return to balance. Over time, these practices lead to RESTORATION, helping people recover from burnout and chronic stress.
