Burn-out
Wellness practitioners experience burnout at high levels. That may sound unbelievable; however it is true. Traditionally wellness practitioners were massage therapists, bodywork practitioners, breath work practitioners, coaches and therapists of all kinds, and yoga instructors.; I would also now include nurses, caregivers of any kind, and teachers. Why would they experience burn-out, they are providing calming experiences? They are providing care and help in a wellness, health, and learning environment…why would that be stressful?
Tongue in cheek aside, these are all giving and serving professions. The providers are usually meant to provide a calm environment for growth, learning, and health. The providers may be going through stress of their own and yet need to present in a way that will not stress their clients out further, and will in fact, calm them down.
The nervous system becomes dysregulated with enough stress and will begin to exhibit physical and emotional signs: irritation, high blood pressure and heart rate, rapid breathing, shortness of breath, aches and pains, and even a lowered immune system. Stress leads to and exhibits as overwhelm and the inability to perform or make decisions.
What can help? Recognizing what nervous system state you are in (angry, frustrated, happy, stressed, etc.), Reset with a stress cycle interruption practice (humming, tapping, swaying, yoga, meditation, etc.), Regulation (a longer practice you do to maintain your reset: yoga, walking, art, etc.) leading to Restoration of a regulated nervous system. The 3R Regulation Method™️.
