Impact
With hand on hip and water bottle to your lips; or bent at the waist with your forearms on your thighs, you pause. When you take a break, in whatever way you do, you think to yourself, “I’m not even making a difference. There is so much ahead.”
Your impact is behind you.
You can’t see it while you are looking forward, while you are moving forward. The, putting one foot in front of the other, is leaving a trail. You are busy looking ahead; looking out through the windshield; looking up the path or the trail; up that mountain. If you take a minute to hold a mirror up in front of you to see over your shoulder; or look in the rearview, you’ll see the impact. You are leaving footprints; scattering and planting seeds; there is change and growth. Give yourself grace to notice.
Every rain storm is made up of drops of rain. Are you disappointed that you are just a drop among millions? Do you feel insignificant or do you realize the power that you hold in the collective, the example you can set. You are like hydration to a hummingbird that has come to that flower petal on which you landed.
How many times do we have to read or hear about someone doing something insignificant to them, but having it mean the world to someone else? Are you missing the blessing of a smaller audience when you expected or hoped for 10,000 to show up? Do you recognize that the 500 who did show up are invested, and your message and influence will land on each of them better than it would if they had to share it with more?
Time will continue to turn and march on. Will you get in step, or let it pass you by as you ponder your worth?
This is your friendly reminder that you matter and what you are doing matters. Big or small, positive or negative, you are having impact.
