Measure with the Heart
I have always loved cooking, as a young bride, a new mom, after work, before work, for other people, and just for myself. There is just something about chopping, slicing, spicing, sautéing, baking, mixing; the act of putting things together that you just know will be tasty. I love cookbooks and reading recipes; I don’t follow them, but I do enjoy reading them. I call it therapy. Maybe it is more about creativity. I don’t know for sure why, but I love it. Maybe it is because I love to eat.
So much of our lives center around food and meals. It is a time to get together. It is a way to nourish our bodies and souls. People go on whole vacations around food destinations. Novels have been written about food and eating. We talk about food for the brain, food for the soul. Food for thought. We recognize that the loss of an appetite and not eating is what happens with illness and dying. Food is life.
What part of your life does food impact? Is it just fuel or is it an experience? Do you love to cook or is it a chore?
